Many times a client only looks at the bottom line when it comes to the performance they are getting for their investment into Search Engine Optimization.

Many times a client only looks at the bottom line when it comes to the performance they are getting for their investment into Search Engine Optimization.

They just look at the keyword phrases they’re paying for, but they don’t see that there are other effects at play.

When a site gets properly optimized, it is being transformed into a thought-out navigational pattern to information. This is the same pattern a search engine spider looks for. Don’t forget, the easier you make it for a spider to index your site, the better your chances are for getting your site a higher placement in the search engine results page.

While W3C validation is something all sites should strive for, it is not required for better rankings. Does it help? Probably. Yahoo engineers have stated that whether a site is W3C compliant or not makes no difference to how it ranks. If it has relevant content, it will get ranked.

Another element when optimizing a site is that through proper naming of page titles, file names and placement of content make the site all the more relevant to the spider. Although Google places less value on Meta Tags, they are still used as part of the algorithm, and should not be overlooked.

When you’ve finished coding the site, and done it right, then Search Engine Marketing finally comes into play. By doing this you are ensuring the traffic to your site will be increased, and there are a number of different ways that you can do this. For instance you could use articles, you could use press releases, blogs, just about anything.

Here is where the collateral benefits of Search Engine Marketing begin to appear. Let’s say that you have been doing a series of press releases where once a week, you talk about a new color of widget. In each press release you also list the other colors of widgets that you have for sale. Even after only the first release gets sent, you’ve already created a valuable In-Bound Link to your site for your Red Widget, but since you included the other colors of the widgets as well, they all pick up IBL’s as well.

An even greater demonstration of a collateral benefit is ranking for keywords and phrases that you aren’t targeting. Keeping to our widget example, if your site copy talks about the different uses of widgets, the available colors that they come in and the best way to preserve your widget, you’ve just created a multitude of various phrases that your site can get ranked on.

This is only a tiny sampling of the potential your site has. Remember, each page gets ranked on it’s own, so that’s why it is so important to make sure every page you have on your site is optimized.

Even your contact/about page is critical because if you have a brick-and-mortar business, by listing your street address, you help the search engines geo target your site. Most search engines are already trying to focus your search results regionally. While it’s not a major factor yet, it is something to be aware of.

When you check Google to see where your site ranks, remember all of the hidden keywords that you may have included. It’s amazing how often these will bring you right to the top of the search engine rankings. Right were you belong!

by Ricardo d Argence

Some online business owners don’t have the money to invest in their website like many other companies. Obviously this can hinder the overall progress and end up making it take longer to solve some of your issues. However, even if you know something isn’t working and you need to fix it, we have five good answers for you. Each one of them deals with different aspects to a business website, and could be the difference you need to be successful.

1. You aren’t getting traffic. You’re excited about the big, expensive job the design team just finished on your site. Well it’s a shame it isn’t making you a cent. Just because it exists doesn’t mean people know about it.

Announce it to the world by submitting it to reputable directories and sharing your useful content with others on social bookmarking sites. You can even do some link exchanges just to get your site crawled early on.

Another advantage you have is adding your site to the search engines. However, it’s not as easy as it sounds, but with a little SEO practice you can find your business at the top. We recommend using web analytic software to monitor the progress. A good place to start is a free version like Google Analytics.

2. You have worthless content. What defines worthless content? Without knowing what topic your web site covers it’s tough to say, but if you have nothing that sets you apart from your top competitors then I’d say you aren’t in good shape. If you don’t know what kind of content people are looking for on the Internet today, take a peek at what’s popular on social bookmarking sites.

Take a glance at the way the top competitor has theirs set up and use that as a measuring stick of where you need to go with yours. Make sure that you are creative, and try to stand out amongst others.

3. You have no call-to-action. Poor promotional language can have a sabotaging effect if visitors aren’t drawn to your conversion pages. A conversion page is any page that acts as the final step in a visitor submitting a form, making direct contact or purchasing a product online. Obscuring those pages or confusing the visitor on where to go next can make them leave your site. Remember, internet users have a short attention span.

Once you’ve done all of this, it’s important to keep track of how things are progressing. You will need to pull out your analytics software and figure out where your visitors are going. If you notice that no one is visiting a certain page, then you probably need to change it. Plus, you’ll want to know whether or not you have quality or quantity content. This will help understand the conversion rates.

If you just take advantage of one of our tips, make sure you always let the visitor know how they can purchase your product. Remember, we all have short attention spans in the fast paced world we live in today. Having them jump through hoops to get the final result will only make the majority of them turn away.

Unfortunately there will come a time when you get all kinds of traffic and no sales. When this happens you have to reassess why you’re not making any money. It could be due to the fact that you don’t have relevant traffic. To fix this you’re going to have to optimize your content appropriately to the keywords that don’t have a lot of competition. This way when people come across your business website, they’ll already be interested in what you have to offer. The only thing left to do is make sure your site closes the sale.

5. You’re getting relevant traffic but no sales. This problem could signal a technical error or navigation problem with your site. Make sure you thoroughly test all functionalities on various web browsers and systems. Submit test forms. Do a link check to spot possible broken links.

Making sure you have relevant traffic, a unique product, and making your site user friendly are just a few ways to set yourself up for success. Moving away from the web site problems, make sure you also investigate any part of the sales process taking part away from the website as well.

Do you think that your website could use a good content management system? If you think about the content on your page as a lure and the clusters of keywords on your page is bait, you'll find that it is important to be appealing to the search engines.

by Ricardo d Argence

Do you think that your website could use a good content management system? If you think about the content on your page as a lure and the clusters of keywords on your page is bait, you’ll find that it is important to be appealing to the search engines.

When you think about it, the continuity between your title, your description and the content on your page gives you a score from a search engine that determines your level of authority and importance for its searchers, and with that in mind, you are going to need to think about what you can do gain authority!

Working on search engine optimization is something to take in stages and creating a foundation where search engines send users to you is the first step. You need content that will keep things fresh and you can do this with a constant rotation of keyword rich titles and tags.

Remember that unless you are on top of this, the search engine spiders are not going to be attracted to what you have to say. Reputation and inbound links are not going to do it for you, and the only way to get the attention that you need is through consistent quality content.

One important decision that you need to make about your website is whether or not you are going to need a content management system. Content management systems are typically used on larger sites, to control text, video, pictures etc.

When you employ a good content management system, you’ll discover that you can easily change and update your information. If you have a site where some segments (staff pictures and biographies, newsletter archives, etc) change rapidly, this can be great!

When you are ready to change out your website, you’ll find that a content management system is a great way to save yourself time and money. You can make the changes that you need without needing to wait on a web designer or a web master to get back to you. You are going to be working entirely on your own schedule.

This can be a very important feature because it allows you to keep your website current at all times so you’re making the best possible presentation to your customer. It can save you money because you will not have to pay your web designer to make the updates for you.

Typically, a website that is more than 15 pages would be a good candidate for a content management system. The more information you have on your website the greater the chances are that you are going to need to keep that information updated. If your website is less than 15 pages, you probably will not need a content management system.

When you are looking at targeting keywords on your website, always make sure that you consider the market as a whole, and that you are interested in creating valuable content; this is the way to get the page views and the attention.

Traffic is exposure. If no one knows how to find your website or blog, then you will only be showing off your great site to friends and family. Page optimization refers to search engine optimization techniques used directly in the construction of web pages. And SEO is more than just engine optimization, it’s about optimizing the page for human readers. If you really do that, serch engines will be glad with that.

It is crucial to be aware of your exercise of keywords, if you want to guarantee your website is full of valuable content. Stay away from keyword stuffing; it gives your website the appearance of ignorance and low principles. Also, search engines can punish your website for keyword overuse if they notice. Use of keywords sparingly and naturally will be ideal. A benefit of using a lot of keywords is attracting search engine traffic, but do not use too many.

Although traditional SEO identifies a keyword density of 2-7% as being ideal for on page optimization, changes in Google’s search engine operations indicate that a density of only 1-2% may be preferable (and easier to read). Make a list of commonly used search terms that relate to your subject and subtopics and sprinkle them throughout your site. Google’s latent semantic index (LSI) algorithm will also reward you for the use of similar phrases.

Keywords do not necessarily have to be restricted to the content of your page. Keywords need to be emphasized in page titles.

A search engine recognizes your page content based heavily on the words you choose to utilize in your page titles. Without using keywords in the title pages, one must have many outside links that point to the specific page to increase web traffic.

When using keywords in the titles of your work, put them close to the beginning of your title and make sure that it is able to be read. To optimize search results, there should always be a title page.

Each page of your website should have its own unique, relatively short page title which utilizes the main keywords for that page. Remember that search engines only allow a certain number of characters to display in search results. Do not use your keywords more than two or three times in your title; for most keyword phrases, once should be enough.

Meta tags is a term you may read about when reading about “on page optimization” but because it was widely abused by spam, search engines don’t acknowledge them. There are very few SEO professionals who continue to depend on meta tags for web page optimization. If you decide to go ahead, make sure you only use meta keywords and descriptions so that these words and phrases show up on the page and are not going to be considered spam.

Linking your site to other similar pages will drastically increase your search engine marketability. All supported links should be genuine and point to sites with content that add value to visitors.

Page optimization is not that hard to do and it will largely benefit the success you will have with the search engines if you offer to your visitors excellent and relevant content.

Online business owners are always searching for ways to build traffic to their site. It’s not a hard task; it deserves a lot of time, effort, and commitment. The problems lies in establishing credibility by using white hat techniques to gain popularity in search rankings. it’s okay to use the basics – article marketing, Google AdWords, and advertising, but you have to do it right.

As an online business owner, you know that buyers never skip over the first page. It’s a constant task to get on the first page, stay on the first page, and remain a top rank in your niche. Your marketing plan should reflect smart strategies to earn the ranks you desire. Be smart and avoid black hat techniques to stay competitive in your industry.

In developing your strategy, you must stay away from black hat techniques. Black hat techniques are unethical practices that will cause Google to ban your site from all results. It’s important to write original content if you want to earn a top rank. Some of the worst black hat techniques include:

1. Masked text and links that match the color of a page’s background, but remains ignored by Google.

Not only Google but the other search engines have the ability to recognize that white text is being displayed on a white background or black text on a black background and so on.

2. Cloaking is a bait-and-switch method of showing search engines one thing and visitors another. It’s a trick to turn visitors into malware victims by luring traffic in with false advertising. Be careful not to do this. This is another factor that can get you dropped instantly once detected.

3. Link Farms. I’m sure you’ve heard of the term link farm. All a link farm is, is a system where all the members are linked to each other via a common set of link pages. The result is that all members have a links page with the other members web addresses on them.

Search engines detect, drop, and eventually ban websites with link farms. For legitimate popularity, you should build links with websites relevant to your information. In fact anyone using this type of linking will be penalized. Never invite website owners to exchange links that are not in your industry or relevant to your business.

4. Duplicate content is content shown on page after page after page on multiple websites. Please play by the rules. Search engines rank original content because it stands out. Duplicate content is indexed once and the other articles are ignored. DO not waste your time or money in paying for this.

5. Keyword Stuffing. Yes you need to have your keywords on your site and in your meta tags, but there is a delicate balance. Sure, you want to rank for a specific keyword and the more times you use it on the page, the more likely you’ll rank for it. Just don’t go crazy. I have about 25 keywords in my meta tags and all of these keywords are used in the content of my site. But they are used only when the content calls for it.

6. Duplicate sites are another eye sore in search engine results. Duplicate sites are exact copies of an original created with new domain names. If a search engine recognizes this, the other sites will get blocked from all results. It’s not worth the time, money, or effort to break the rules. Use good SEO techniques to earn your rank. Keep it nice, sweet, and to the point for the best results.
