How do you website design and program?

Can someone tell me how to design a website and program a site, im interested in creating my own site or even tumblr themes but i dont know how to program. What can i read to teach myself, what programs are out there?

    HTML is a language for creating basic Internet webpages. It’s REALLY simple and you can find many tutorials online, just Google search it. The best website (in my opinion) is: http://www.w3schools.com/

    There are many programs that can save in the html file format; Notepad is one program that is already found on your computer. Another free program that you can install is Notepad++ (http://notepad-plus-plus.org/). Notepad++ is better because it organises your coding and makes it easier for you to see what you are doing.

    There are some programs that are WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) editors. This means that you don’t need to know any coding at all, and you can simply insert text boxes, images, etc using an interface. The most popular WYSIWYG editor is Adobe Dreamweaver. Most WYSIWYG editors also have a mode where you can view the code.

    After learning HTML, learn CSS. CSS helps by formatting the various elements of your webpage (making text bold, changing background colours, etc.). CSS is also very easy to learn and W3Schools is also the best site for learning CSS.

    Personally I am a LAMP developer.

    That means I use Linux, Apache, MySQL, and PHP.

    First, learn HTML and CSS.
    Then, start learning PHP and MySQL.

    By learning those tools, you will be able to make almost any type of website.
    Learn JavaScript as you need to use it, you really don’t need to read a book about it.
