Because of the many blogs sprouting like mushrooms, there is a lot more competition for bloggers to deal with. Unfortunately, a considerable fraction of these blogs are actually spam blogs – and search engines are working fast to get them blacklisted.

Strategic SEO means so much more than simply saturating your blog with keywords and using rather underhanded techniques. To make your blog search-worthy, learn about three things that can earn you a better search engine reputation.

Research Your Keywords. If you are not using a keyword or key phrase research tool, then you aren’t optimizing your blog well. A lot of these tools are readily accessible online for a small fee, or even for free. For instance, Google Suggest coughs up the best ten key words associated with the specific word you want to focus on. There is also Google Keyword Tool, which compares two or more key phrases or keywords in terms of how many global or local searches were made. Overture, a search tool associated with Yahoo’s search results, is one other option. Don’t hesitate to do a little research before you settle on a specific keyword; that way, you know what terms are going to be searched for the most. Don’t forget to use the top keyword in your title to get your page a better search engine ranking.

Quotation Marks Are a No-No for Blog Post Titles. In life, first impressions tend to last – and this also seems to be true when it comes to search engines and blogs. The very first words in a title are the ones that count, so make sure your keyword is at the start of your title. One other thing: quotation marks are a confounding factor for many search engines; they just don’t quite know how to deal with them. Don’t use dashes, periods, question marks, and other quotation marks in your title to get your blog post indexed correctly.

Avoid Keyword Overload. There are many underhanded SEO techniques in the book that you can use – that is, if you want your blog to get penalized by search engines. Don’t use a key phrase in your title if the content of your blog post is not even related to it. Primitive algorithms used by search engines were easy to trick, but recent algorithms are no longer as injudicious.

To recap, remember to do a little digging before you decide on which key phrases and key words to use; Use a keyword research tool of your choice to help you. Avoid the use of quotation marks in titles and headers, and stick to white hat techniques to avoid getting penalized by Google. Abide by these three tips and you will soon get a higher page rank.

Internet’s search engines have changed; gone are the days when underhanded search engine optimization techniques could improve your page rank on Google. Nowadays, because of changes in search engine algorithms, following blackhat techniques is no longer advisable; they will no longer help in increasing your search engine position (otherwise known as SERP) and, worse, they may even lower your page rank. If you own a website or blog and you want to increase your page rank, avoid using the underhanded SEO strategies enumerated below.

Keyword Saturation

This used to be a search engine optimization tactic that worked wonders, but not anymore. Keywords jam-packed into a paragraph can no longer trick search engines to rank your website higher; in fact, it can get your website crossed out from the search engines’ directories. Instead of randomly saturating your blog or website with key words and key phrases, choose strategic positions for key phrases, such as the headings and also the titles. You should also order the header tags (h1 until h6) so that they line up with the different keywords and phrases you plan to use.

Swapping Links

Different website and blog networks promise to improve your page rank by swapping links with you: you post a link to other websites on your own website, and they post a link back to you. However, new algorithms being used by search engines are no longer fooled by this technique. Instead of joining networks that offer link swapping, try writing articles for websites under your own website’s category. In return, ask them to link back to your site. Being a guest blogger or author can earn you relevant links that search engine algorithms actually honor.

Commenting on Blogs

Not all links are counted by Google; some blogs have do-follow tags, while others have no-follow tags. Those with no-follow tags will contain links that search engines will not credit, rendering them useless as back links. Therefore, commenting in blogs to list your site’s URL in the comment is no longer a valuable SEO strategy. Instead of using this underhanded strategy, you can invest in good content for your website.

Search Engine Directory Submissions

Owners of new websites often spend a lot of time – and even money – to submit their websites to search engines. Although this may work for your site to be indexed, it may actually be unnecessary. To be crawled by search engines, all you need is to mention your website on social networking sites, such as LinkedIn and Twitter. You may also try Ping.fm; these websites are constantly being watched by Google.

Last But Not Least

Search engine algorithms keep changing – but with quality content, you can never go wrong. Back links from other sites relevant to your own are also useful and may actually help improve your website’s page rank. In the end, the best thing to do is avoid black hat methods.

Even marketers who do not use blogs recognize very well that blogging is an excellent way to generate money. That is true but most new marketers have no idea of the learning curve associated with blogging. None of it is difficult to comprehend, in most cases, but there is blogging to fail and doing it and making good money. The reality is a good number of commercial blogs don’t make any money. That may easily be avoided by taking things one step at a time. But the most vital element with any internet business is to take action while continuing to learn.

If you, yourself are a new comer to business on the net, then we will let you know it can be quite simple to do things out of proper sequence. First of all, never run out and purchase a domain address without having executed keyword research in the market, or niche. You can prevent much agony and save time by doing so, and you need to uncover the right market in order to be profitable. There are lots of points about a superior niche, and just one of the things to look for is presence of extra income. Remember, if you select a good niche but one you truly hate, you will subsequently be miserable working in it. The experiences of several people have proven that we tend to overlook those markets, and businesses, which unfortunately hold no interest whatsoever for us. So, envision having to write all kinds of content on a subject which bores you to death.

One element that seems to easily overwhelm new bloggers is theme selection. The two primary divisions concerning themes are the types you shell out for and themes that are free. Your theme needs to be appropriate for your product or service and market, or else your visitors may be confused and just leave. A cost-free theme needs to be compatible with future WordPress updates, and that would mean the theme is required to be maintained by the creator. An individual common experience with cost-free themes is they could develop ugly broken formats, and then if it is not updated you are stuck and must to find another theme. You by no means want to be limited with plug ins due to theme incompatibility. This has not even been a thorough article about themes, so just have that in mind.

The content you use on your sites must carry out multiple jobs at the same time. Search engine marketing tactics means your content needs to be created with keyword optimization in mind. If you are wise, then you can create some of your content with the intention of achieving more social network exposure. The point here is it is possible to write content that has the potential to get individuals talking about you. But the most critical thing you should do is write for your visitors. For this reason it is so crucial that you fully understand the needs of your projected audience. Lastly, figure out how to develop your own writing voice which will be simply a reflection of your unique personality.

But this is not the end of what you should know to earn money from blogging. Of course the web is jam-packed with details on this subject. That means it is all the more crucial that you learn from reliable sources.

The are still numerous myths floating around the blogosphere and you really have to marvel at all the different information sources, many of them conflicting. So here are my debunkings:

Any ordinary Joe can start a blog. Not quite sure about that! Do you enjoy writing? Do you have specialized knowledge you want to share? Are you passionate about a certain topic? If you answered No to any or all of these questions, think again.

Anyone can set up a blog. Some blogs are much easier to set up and use than others depending on your blog host (e.g., blogger, iblogs, typepad, tblog, etc.). Some blog hosts take you through a couple simple set-up steps and you’re off writing your first post but there are others that get far more technical than the average user may be ready for.

Blogging is grade-school. When in comes to blogging, it’s the actual writing that’s the toughest nut to crack. The more engaged and knowledgeable you are with your subject, the easier and more interesting your writing will be.

Most blogs are political. Many blogs focus on political topics but most blogs are just bloggers discussing their lives, loves and travels.

Blogs are in competition with the main-stream media. This is true in a few cases (not as many cases as bloggers would have you think). Just recently, there have been some very popular and influential social and politically-oriented blogs that have caused main-stream media outlets to back-track and change their coverage of important events.

Bloggers are all just making criticisms and have no new information to add. This may be true in some cases. But today, corporations, media outlets, public personalities, politicians and experts in almost every field have now joined the ranks of blog producers. All this expertise adds up new information to the blogosphere every now and then.

Blogs don’t always tell the truth. That’s a bit of an overstatement. You may read bad information and even intentional untruths in blogs but, for the most part, bloggers who state facts are stating what they honestly believe to be fact. It is always up to the reader to verify that any information they receive is accurate information.

The are still numerous myths floating around the blogosphere and you really have to marvel at all the different information sources, many of them conflicting. So here are my debunkings:

The simplest of all people can start a blog. I don’t think so! Though you don’t have to be super technical when it comes to blogging, you still should know how to use the computer, need an Internet connection and blog host (free or paid), some experience using the Internet and most importantly a passion for writing and communicating your thoughts.

Anyone can set up a blog. This comes down to the blog host you are using. Some hosts get far more technical than the average user may be ready for. Some just require you to fill a one-step form and your blog will be set up in seconds!

Bloggers are just having fun criticizing everyone and everything and have no new information to add. True in some cases. Today, blogging is much more than the personal activity it used to be. Corporations, media outlets, public personalities, politicians and experts in almost every field have now joined the ranks of blog producers. Considering all this expertise, one would have to say that bloggers have a lot of new information to add to any debate.

You can’t believe anything you read in a blog. That’s a bit of an overstatement. You’ll get to read bad information and even intentional untruths in blogs but, for the most part, bloggers who state facts are stating what they honestly believe to be fact. Readers should be responsible enough to verify that any information they receive is accurate.
